Scarecrow
“We saw these macabre effigies everywhere we looked: propped up in overgrown gardens, atop creaky rooftops, erected in ancient burial grounds. On one occassion we passed an old, crumbling village hall and saw many hollow eyes staring out at us from its gloomy interior; their frozen, twisted faces displayed in the dusty, cobwebbed windows like some madman’s dollhouse. Their meaning was unknown to us, but their foreboding appearance and dark potency had left us all feeling uneasy and anxious to leave this quiet and sinister place. I do not wish to revisit the village of Blackhill anytime soon, it has left quite a mark on my mind and shall haunt me forever.”
